It’s that time again! Time for this month’s Random Reads and the first of the year 2012!
Happy New Year btw!
For those who haven’t heard of Random Reads yet, read my first post about it here. I’ve also included instructions at the bottom of this post.
In short, it’s a meme where we pick a random book from our shelf to read within the month. I’m on Goodreads so I’m using a combination of the sorting feature and Random.org to pick the book I’m going to read.
Before I begin though, I want to mention another awesome way to help you guys cut into your to-read pile this year. In case you haven’t heard of it yet, you’ve definitely got to check out and join in on Evie’s 2012 TBR Pile Challenge! There will be new challenges every month, and I’ll just bet that some of those challenges could coincide with your Random Read for the month. So definitely head on over to Evie’s blog to check that out. I’ll be doing the challenges all year as well because I need to get rid of some of my old stuff on my TBR pile to make room for the new!
Now onto this month’s Random Read! This month Random.org chose…

#257 on my to-read list, Genisis by Bernard Beckett, and it’s been on my to-read list since August 12, 2011, which I suppose isn’t TOO bad. But I’m glad to finally get to it. It’s one of those that I added and sort of forgot about amongst everything else. Oopsies. But, it still sounds really interesting to me so I’m definitely going to give it a shot. Plus at only 150 pages it should be an easy one to fit into the month.
I just put it this one on hold at my library and will read it soon!
Want to join in on Random Reads?
It’s easy…
- If you’re on Goodreads enable sorting to your to-read shelf (you should see numbers next to each book now).
- Go to Random.org and type in the Min as 1 and the Max as how many ever books are on your to-read shelf.
- Scroll down to the book matching the number Random.org picks.
- Link up to your Random Reads post (below).
- Read and be merry.
If you’re not on Goodreads just pick a random book from your list in whatever way you want to do it. You can use the method I used above or even just close your eyes and point randomly at a book on your bookshelf if you want (spin the bottle style). lol
Random Reads Buttons
Here is the meme button you can use and it’s copy/paste code:

Or you can use the longer “banner” version I used in this post instead:

Link to Your Random Reads Reviews From DECEMBERI got a couple requests on the last Random Reads to have a wrap up post where everyone can link up to their reviews. I’m not sure how to do this or if at all. But for now, while it’s not as popular of a meme, I’m going to skip this. If I get a good amount of people coming back to the meme each month, then I’ll think about this more.

This is such a great idea for a meme! I hope it really takes off. ^-^ Thanks for hosting! ♥
Thanks Sarah. I do too! It can be tough with a monthly meme because people tend to forget about it every month or forget what day it is! lol Hopefully it will take off though, that'd be awesome cause I think it could help a lot of people.
If not though, I would still continue to do it for myself because I just think it's useful.

Thank you for telling me about RR this month. Just yesterday I was here thinking I missed it for January and was kinda bummed.
I got a pretty cool RR this month. I had been meaning to read it for quite awhile now.
Thanx again

I've been doing it weekly. On Thursdays
It's a lot of fun
I'll link up this Thursday's one tomorrow when I get up

Sweet! I wish I could do this weekly, but honestly I just can't. lol I have too much that I need to read before the random stuff. haha
But that's awesome girl. Feel free to link up to each of them throughout the month if you want, as long as it's a different random read then that's totally cool with me!
When you do though, just put your blog name and then (Week 1)…(Week 2), etc. in there so it doesn't look like repeat posts.

Ok, I'll start that this month since the December collection for links is closed

Really great meme, and I love the layout of your blog and how the buttons change colour when you hover over them. A shame they are blocing non-blogger freind connect! Thanks for hosting!

Thanks! And yes, it does suck, but oh well. Things change and you roll with the punches.
Plus the good part about it is that it seems like lots of people are moving to wordpress. I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but yeah. Also, I've always been a fan of following blogs in a reader and I think it's introducing more people in the book blogging community to that feature. I think it's way easier than following blogs in blogger, so hopefully more people will discover something better!
I do tend to read via Google Reader if I'm up for reading all my Blogs!
It's great that your helping spread the word.

This would be my first meme!
So excited.
Thanks for hosting it.

Hey Sandee..I tried commenting on your blog but for some reason the comment box wouldn't pop up. I'm not sure if it's my browser or what.
Anyways, it looks like the code got messed up when you paste it in there. I'm not familiar with Blogger, but if they have an html capable box, then right click in the box above and go to select all, then right click again and go to copy (or ctrl+c) and then just paste into the html capable box in blogger. I hope this helps. Sorry you're having trouble with it!
OMG this is such a great idea! If I did this once a month for a year I bet I could find some new amazing books! Again amazing idea.. picking my read for February (since its already pretty much the end of January lol)

Thanks! I thought so. I hope you do. I've been doing it for 3 months and honestly every book I've picked has been a good one. Maybe I've just gotten lucky so far though! lol
Hey, I was trying to put the Random Reads Banner on my blog, and it didn't seem to work. I was wondering if you had more of these posts from other people? And would like to know how these people got it working. And I love the idea of Random Reads! "In honor of the books who always get picked last"!
@Lauren and Sandee — First off, sorry Sandee. I think this was my fault. After looking at my code again, I think something was off with it. Thanks Lauren for mentioning this. I think I fixed it now, so please try copying and pasting it again. Hope it works now!
Wonderful idea. As soon as I finish the book I am on, I am gonna select a random read!!!!
Thanks Sara! I hope you do.
It's already helped me dig into my pile a bit and discover a few books that I wasn't expecting to be as good as they were, which is a total bonus!
I missed February didn't I?
I am putting a reminder for March 1st. I love this monthly meme & am sad i missed it! *argh*
My recent post I.M.M. Week ending February 12th
You can still do it for February if you'd like, there's still a good 15 days left.
But I'm glad you'll be coming back either way!
