Random Reads: Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

Random Reads

Woot woot, another new feature. I just keep thinking of new crazy stuff I want to do. lol So why not? :)

Random Reads is a possibly monthly feature and something I might actually turn into a meme. I’m not sure if you guys would be interested though, so please vote on the poll at the bottom of this post if you think you would participate (or not, I’d love to know either way).

Basically I have too many books on my to-read list that have been getting more and more buried every day. So I thought it would be fun to use random.org to pick a random book on my Goodreads to-read list and I would read that book NOW (well, at least put it on hold from the library now and read it when I get it).

The only exceptions are if it’s a book that’s in the middle of a series you’re reading and you haven’t gotten to that book yet then you can pass and pick another random book. Or, if it’s a book you look at and realize it’s something you’re no longer interested in then you can DELETE it from your to-read list and pick another. You can also obviously skip it if it’s a coming soon book that hasn’t been released yet. I actually keep my coming soon books on a separate exclusive shelf so that’s not an issue for me here.

Hopefully this will really help me to dig into books that have kind of just been lurking around for one reason or another.

So, here’s my first victim:

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

So the winner is #272, Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols. Not in a series (check), still interested in (check), and it’s been on my list since July 17, 2011 so not TOO long, but also right on four months now, so it’s getting up there.

I’ve already put this on hold and will be reading it soon!

In case you’re wondering how I did this. If you’re on Goodreads, then go to your “to-read” shelf, and make sure “position” is checked under shelf settings (at the top of the list) >> visible columns.

Then go to random.org and put in the min as 1, and the max as how many ever books are on your to-read shelf. Hit the generate button, and voila! Then just scroll through your to-read shelf and find whatever book has that number.

If you’re not on Goodreads, then just look around for a way to see a numbered list on whatever book community you use.

So what do you guys think? You wanna join in on this with me? If not, that’s fine. It’s something that I want to do anyways. But I thought I’d give you guys the opportunity. So if you think you do (or don’t) then vote below. If I get a good response, then I’ll turn this into a meme so we all can tackle this together! :)

I like this idea! My TBR needs some help and this seems like fun! I will try it and see how it works for me :) Thanks for the idea and possibly a new meme to join in. Good luck with your reading goals!

This is a good idea! It would help especially when you feel like you're in a rut or can't figure out what's next. I'd definitely consider it if you choose to do it!

I have made a challenge to myself. I have to read one book each month, that has been on my shelves for over a year. So far, it is working.

This used to be how I chose my next reads – before I started reviewing books! LOL If you made this a meme/challenge or whatever, I'd definitely participate!

  6. Liz says:

That's a very fun idea. It would especially help for those books that get lost on our TBR's. I chose monthly cause I also have books I've signed on to review and what not. I wish I could have a clone, one to read all day and then one to do everything else :)

Such a good idea. I'd definitely do it once a month.

  8. I love this idea! I'm going to bookmark this post so I can remember how to do this. I may use it in the future, but right now, I read books and review them for my blog, plus I also write books, so my day is really full. If I ever have spare time to read a random book, I'm definitely doing this. Thanks for telling us about it.

I love this idea! Unfortunately, I usually can't really find the books on my TBR list in my library (and I can't afford buying them right now), but I think it's a really great plan.

  10. Missie says:

Oh! Really brilliant idea. I should do something like this, but then again, I mostly like to pretend my TBR list doesn't exist because it's a monstrosity.

What a FAB FAB FAB idea! I am going to start using this to help me get through my TBR (after I do the mandatory for reviews/book tours reads)

Oh my goodness. I just found this through another blogger, and think it's the best idea ever! I have so many books that I've had for years and years and just never get to. I think this will be just the thing.
