He is everything she wants to avoid…
For two years, Catherine Marks has been a paid companion to the Hathaway sisters — a pleasant position, with one caveat. Her charges’ older brother, Leo Hathaway, is thoroughly exasperating. Cat can hardly believe that their constant arguing could mask a mutual attraction. But when one quarrel ends in a sudden kiss, Cat is shocked at her powerful response — and even more so when Leo proposes a dangerous liaison.

She is not at all what she seems…
Leo must marry and produce an heir within a year to save his family home. Catherine’s respectable demeanor hides a secret that would utterly destroy her. But to Leo, Cat is intriguing and infernally tempting, even to a man resolved never to love again. The danger Cat tried to outrun is about to separate them forever — unless two wary lovers can find a way to banish the shadows and give in to their desires …

My Review:

Married by Morning is about probably the most scandalous of all the Hathaways, Leo, and Catherine (a.k.a. Marks). Their relationship has spanned really the whole series but it’s always been a relationship of back and forth banter and more unclaimed sexual tension than anything else. I wasn’t sure how I would like their love story. At times Leo would sort of piss me off in the previous books with his uncaring what happens to him sort of attitude. Then Marks just seemed to be a little too uptight and snooty.

Thankfully though I loved their story. It’s probably my second favorite book in the series because I grew to really love both Leo and Marks, and them together as a couple. At first it doesn’t make much sense. But when you get down to the nitty-gritty Leo is essentially a rake who is used to getting what he wants, but also keeping himself held a distance because of his past losses. But Marks challenges him because she isn’t swooned by him and she almost always will call him out.

I liked see them grow in love with one another. It seemed gradual and realistic to me. I also liked learning more about Marks’ past. We didn’t really know much about her other than a few things, and as it turns out she has a pretty dark past so it revealed a lot about why she acts the way she does.

Overall another great Hathaway novel. I’m really glad I decided to continue this series after the first book because they just get better and better. Now Bea is the only one left and then I suppose I’ll have to read the Wallflowers, which I really should’ve read first. But oh well! :)

  1. So this one stems off from The Wallflowers series? I used to have that series in Hardcover, I think I still do somewhere in my library. I haven't read this series but I have read that one and it's a definitely enjoyable series. This one sounds interesting as well.

i think ms kleypas should continue with historical romance and combine a new book or books combining the hathaways and wallflowers. there are children grown or growning up. what stories she could write involving the families. please spread the word. i think she is the best historical romance writer by far. the hathaways and wallflowers are my favorite. i did not want them to end. thanks for reading my comments. b. verne
