We interviewed author James King! Read on below to know more about him, his writing, and what gets him excited right now!
Hi James! We wanna start with asking you what your three favorite books are that inspired your writing.
The Glass Bead Game – Herman Hesse.
Catcher in the Rye – JD Salinger
David Copperfield – Charles Dickens
What do you do when you’re not writing?
When I’m not writing I’m trying very hard to understand book marketing. I would love to be free to concentrate on writing 100% but as I have taken the decision to self-publish and cannot afford to employ a marketing team I have to find the best way to sell books myself. Although I have been blogging for four years and have self-published four books I have to admit that I find implementing a marketing process very difficult.
What’s the hardest thing about writing for you?
Learning to understand and follow the basic novel writing principles takes some time but ensuring the story is good and building drama into it through good narrative and dialogue is a real challenge. I always put myself in the readers’ shoes but sometimes forget they don’t know what I know.
What are you excited about right now?
I’m in the editing process of the first two books of a series of novels. It will be exciting and probably nerve-wracking when they are eventually published and I’m well into Book 3. I’m not sure if waiting for the market’s reaction will be a pleasant experience or not.
Which book would you recommend a reader start with?
15 WEEKS is my first book of my Thailand Diaries which is a 3 book series. It was written in 2008. It’s raw but it’s FREE.
