Reva Avalon finds a home in King Davead’s household, after her parents are murdered during the Menti uprising. She is not married to Prince Luca however, as the king promised, but instead sold to the severe General Uhna of the king’s army. Her abrupt release from his clutches prompts her to embark on a journey through Estala, expecting adventure, danger, and heartbreak than she could ever imagine. Luca, meanwhile, has always lived in the shadow of his beloved brother. He is weak and sickly, but a shocking turn of events finds him at the center of power that can consume him. Now Luca must control his powers in order to conceal them – and hide them from his father. His father has problems of his own, however – he has demanded that all sorcerers be put to death, and enlists the help of the violence religious sect the Order of Insight, led by his feared son Stefan the Snake. The Order has grown too strong, however, and leaves King Davead vulnerable to those he fears the most.
